Description

BakerRipley's Home Restoration Program primarily relies on skilled contractors to conduct repairs and installations needed in homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey. To support these efforts, we have many opportunities for individuals and groups of any skill level.

One is performing painting and finishing work after signficiant repairs have been completed. BakerRipley will provide the paint and supplies, but we are looking for volunteers who want to pick up a brush or roller to help make the houses of our neighbors homes again!

Community workdays are still being planned, so sign up here to be the first to know! In addition, if you have a group from work, school, church or elsewhere, we would be happy to work with you to set up a group activity. Please register here, and also email tholstien@bakerripley.org with more information about your group, including affiliation, number of volunteers, and preferred dates!

Our Home Restoration program is part of a broader Disaster Recovery Program through which BakerRipley is supporting our region's recovery from Hurricane Harvey. We operated an emergency shelter at NRG Center immediately following Harvey's landfall for individuals and families displaced by the storm, and now we are providing disaster case management, operating Neighborhood Restoration Centers in partnership with the City of Houston, and helping our neighbors access alternative housing, home repair, and emergency financial assistance -- all so that our neighbors can get back to their pre-disaster livelihoods or on to their new normal.

Hurricane Harvey Relief Canvassing

East Aldine

Disaster Response

Description

BakerRipley leads a door-to-door canvassing activity on the third Saturday of each month in Houston communities impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Volunteers meet at 9:00 am for an orientation, then fan out into an affected neighborhood for two hours to provide information about BakerRipley's available disaster recovery services which include case management, home repair, and financial assistance for unmet needs.

You may be asking why this is necessary given that we're now more than nine months past when Harvey came ashore. The reason is that we continue to find neighbors who are unaware of available resources that can help with their recovery. BakerRipley has been granted quite a bit of funding to support our region's recovery, and we are making every effort to let our neighbors know how we can help.

We have conducted several canvassing dates since February, and our volunteers have consistently had meaningful experiences. How? BakerRipley's canvassing activities enable you to be a resource to our Houston neighbors. You will engage residents in underserved communities, learn how the storm impacted their lives, and offer renewed hope of helpful disaster recovery services.
