Hurricane Harvey Home Restoration -- Muck-And-Gut

Various Locations

Disaster Response

Description

BakerRipley's Home Restoration Program primarily relies on skilled contractors to conduct repairs and installations needed in homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey. To support these efforts, we have many opportunities for individuals and groups of any skill level.

Muck-and-gut continues to be a great need for many residents across the Houston region, and we are looking for volunteers to conduct this home demolition work in order to prepare our neighbors' homes for more signficant repairs!

Community workdays are still being planned, so sign up here to be the first to know! In addition, if you have a group from work, school, church or elsewhere, we would be happy to work with you to set up a group activity. Please register here, and also email tholstien@bakerripley.org with more information about your group, including affiliation, number of volunteers, and preferred dates!

Our Home Restoration program is part of a broader Disaster Recovery Program through which BakerRipley is supporting our region's recovery from Hurricane Harvey. We operated an emergency shelter at NRG Center immediately following Harvey's landfall for individuals and families displaced by the storm, and now we are providing disaster case management, operating Neighborhood Restoration Centers in partnership with the City of Houston, and helping our neighbors access alternative housing, home repair, and emergency financial assistance -- all so that our neighbors can get back to their pre-disaster livelihoods or on to their new normal.

Hurricane Harvey Relief Canvassing

Various Locations (including Greater Hobby, Greenspoint, Gulfton)

Disaster Response

Description

Join us as we canvass neighborhoods in Houston that were hit by Hurricane Harvey and where we have seen and heard about extensive ongoing Harvey-related needs. Volunteers will first meet to receive training and instruction, before being split into pairs or small groups to block-walk door-to-door to inform our neighbors about BakerRipley's available disaster recovery services.

BakerRipley is now serving more than 4,100 families impacted by Hurricane Harvey through disaster case management. We are committed to serving more of our neighbors -- but we need help letting our neighbors know about how we can help!

Through canvassing, we hope to reach neighbors in need of a helping hand. Our disaster case management and home restoration services are part of a broader Disaster Recovery Program through which BakerRipley is supporting our region's recovery from Hurricane Harvey. We operated an emergency shelter at NRG Center immediately following Harvey's landfall for individuals and families displaced by the storm, and now operating Neighborhood Restoration Centers in partnership with the City of Houston. If you have a group from work, school, church or elsewhere, we would be happy to work with you to set up a group activity. Please register here, and also email tholstien@bakerripley.org with more information about your group, including affiliation, number of volunteers, and preferred dates!

This is an opportunity for you to meaningfully engage our neighbors and demonstrate that we in the Houston community continue to keep the needs of those impacted by Harvey at the forefront.
